How To Create An Online Workout Program

Dave Smith

By Dave Smith

How much time do you spend creating workouts for your clients each month?

When I was a face-to-face personal trainer, it would take me hours to create the workouts, explain them to my clients, and then answer even more questions when those clients tried to do the workouts on their own.

And all that prep work and hand-holding was not "on the clock" - I wasn't getting paid for those hours and neither are you!

That's why it's so important to streamline as much as you can. Any time you can simplify your work or automate a process, do it!

Here's a trick I just learned that literally cut out 100% of the time I spend on creating and delivering workouts to new clients. Sounds too good to be true, I know. Just keep reading...

How to Automatically Create & Deliver Workouts to Your Online Personal Training Clients

Before you dive into this time-saving strategy, it's important to know that I have a very niched down fitness business. All of my clients are females who are similar in age, pain points, and fitness goals. This makes it very easy to create a program once and reuse it over and over again.

If you don't have a niche for your business, get on that! The more you understand your ideal target client, the easier it will be for you to attract new ones, and the less work you'll have to do coaching them. Here's proof:

Step #1: Create an Order Page Using Clickfunnels

There aren't many pieces of software I NEED in order to run my business, but Clickfunnels is one of them. I use it to:

  • Create landing pages and sales pages
  • Process payments when I sell online products and services
  • Email my clients and prospects
  • Host webinars
  • Upsell clients with higher-end offers
  • Downsell clients who didn't purchase one offer, but might be interested in another
  • Build my email list using lead magnets and quizzes
  • And on and on...

In order to automate your business, you'll need a Clickfunnels account so that you can create a funnel with an order page that looks something like this:

Team Training

In this case, my new client is signing up for a Team Training membership. This program costs $99 per month and promises clients a new exercise routine at the start of each month.

Previously, when I received notification that someone joined my Team Training program, I would manually create and deliver their workouts. It was a pain in the butt and took a ton of time. No longer. You'll see in the following steps how the entire process can be automated.

Step #2: Build Your Workout Templates in TotalCoaching

A few years ago I realized that the vast majority of my clients were following similar exercise routines. They were in the same stage of life and had similar fitness goals, so it made sense that their exercise would be similar too.

So, instead of creating each client's workout by hand, I began building workout templates using TotalCoaching, a software that lets you deliver workouts (along with instructions and videos) to your clients online.

As you can see in the image below, I now have dozens of templated workouts (left column), each labelled by the date I created it. Within each template, I have created 5 workouts for a week, and those workouts repeat each week for an entire month.

Workout Template

Each workout consists of written instructions as well as a video demonstration that I personally filmed, or an animated demonstration video that comes with TotalCoaching (it offers a library of hundreds of exercises to choose from).

The workouts prescribe the number of sets, repetitions, weights, and rest intervals. In other words, everything a client needs is built right in.

Step #3: Set Up the Automation Using Zapier

You now have a way to sell your fitness services online using Clickfunnels, and you can build all sorts of amazing workout plans in TotalCoaching. Let's put the two together...

Zapier is a really amazing online service that allows other websites and software communicate with one another. The best part, you can create a free account here.

Once you open your Zapier account, the first thing you need to do is to create a "zap," which is really just a term for a process that you want Zapier to follow. You're the boss - you just have to tell Zapier what to do.

Zap

Making a zap is easy. First, you tell Zapier what the "trigger" is (i.e. what event should signal Zapier to do something), and what the "action" is (i.e. when the trigger happens, what do you want Zapier to do).

In this case, I want a Team Training sale in Clickfunnels to be the trigger, and the action will be a workout routine being created for and delivered to my new client.

As demonstrated in the video at the beginning of this blog post, you simply search for "Clickfunnels" in the Zapier app search bar and it will pop right up.

Trigger

Zapier will lead you through the steps of connecting to your Clickfunnels account and then testing to make sure your tigger is working properly. It is so easy and takes just a few minutes to set up.

Next, you will complete a similar process for your action. You will connect Zapier with your TotalCoaching account and can then follow the steps to tell Zapier exactly what you want it to do.

In my case, I chose it to:

  • Create an account in TotalCoaching for every new client
  • Add a workout plan called "TT #1" to the new client's exercise calendar
  • Send that client an email so that they can instantly access their workouts

Email Workout

Pretty cool, right?

Now when a new client joins my program, she will automatically get all of her workouts without me lifting a finger!

During the process, I have Clickfunnels send an email to her with an invitation to join my Facebook group for clients only. This is where she will be able to interact with other women who have done that same workout plan, or who are currently doing it. It's a great community-builder.

Plus, any of my clients can ask questions in that group so that myself or other clients can help them out along the way. It's a very efficient and effective system.

Automation Recap

If you want to build your online fitness business, you have to be very stingy with your time. You can only afford to spend time on the tasks that absolutely need your attention. Anything that can be outsourced or automated should be!

Let Clickfunnels take care of your selling process. Use TotalCoaching to make it super-simple to create and deliver workout programs. And then let Zapier tie the process together so that it's all done for you.
